Kshamenk's capture is controversial. He was described as being 'rescued' however others say he was forced to strand. He was taken in with a male, presumed to be his father. It is estimated at Kshamenk's capture he was roughly 3-5 years old. He lived with a female named Belen* and together they had a calf which later died. He has lived alone since Belen*'s death in 2000. Currently he shares a tank with bottlenose dolphins and performs daily with them. In 2013, Kasatka of SeaWorld California gave birth to Makani, sired by Kshamenk's sperm. Kshamenk has since also fathered Kamea, mothered by Takara at SeaWorld Texas.
